Per le Donne is the title of this special program which will highlight women as composers, as dedicatees of works, as performers thanks to the extraordinary violinist Elisa Citterio.
Two composers, rare examples of the Baroque period, such as the French harpsichordist Elizabeth Jaquet de la Guerre and the religious Isabella Leonarda.
The Pio Ospedale della Pietà in Venice, the most prestigious of the four women’s hospitals in Venice where orphans or children from very poor families who learned a trade and left the institution at the age of 15 found assistance; the girls instead received a musical education and the most talented ones became members of the hospital. Depending on the different abilities demonstrated, there was a hierarchical subdivision among these from the choir daughters, to the more expert called choir privileges, up to the choir mistresses who taught. Antonio Vivaldi, violin master of the Pio Ospedale della Pietà, composed countless concerts for girls, and in the program we can admire two examples.
The chronicler-musicophile Charles de Brosses certified with admiration: The exceptional music is that of the hospitals where the “putte” sing like angels and play the violin, the organ, the oboe, the cello, the bassoon; in short, there is no instrument that scares them.
The homage to two illustrious local violinists such as Biagio Marini, from Brescia, considered a master of trio sonatas and of whom we will listen to 3 examples of rare compositional wisdom and Pietro Antonio Locatelli, great virtuoso and innovator of violin technique.
We will listen to a particular symphony by Locatelli, which bears the following dedication: Composta per le essequie della sua Donna che si celebrarono a Roma.
The initiative has been hosted in collaboration with the Tadini Academy.
