Presentation “Space and Memory. The Cult of Balaton and Collective Memory”

Saturday, May 30, at 2:30 pm in the Council Chamber of the Municipality of Iseo, Prof. Tímea Farkis will present “Space and Memory: The Cult of Balaton and Collective Memory.”
The presentation analyzes the role of the Keszthely summer school, organized by Erzsébet University of Pécs, and the vacation home built for students in the development of the so-called “cult of Balaton.” Based on archival research, the topic is addressed with an interdisciplinary approach, highlighting the cultural heritage of the Festetics family of Keszthely. The presentation also offers an overview of the diplomatic and cultural agreements between Italy and Hungary, which significantly influenced the structure of the summer school’s courses and lectures, as well as the key milestones of their close collaboration.
The event is part of the initiatives of the “European Lakes Festival 2026.”
