What happens when state justice and faith in God betray those who believed in them most? This question inspires Ribellione, an adaptation of the novel by Central European writer Joseph Roth, written and directed by Francesco Niccolini. On stage is Roberto Anglisani, an actor and compelling narrator, one of the leading figures in narrative theater. With plays such as Job – Story of a Simple Man and The Dreamer – all produced by the CSS Teatro stabile di innovazione del Friuli Venezia Giulia – he has recounted fables, myths, and great novels, giving voice to the underprivileged and the excluded. The protagonist of the story is Andreas Pum, a war veteran, who endures human injustice until he rebels against God himself. A fierce, desperate, and necessary rebellion. An indictment that becomes prayer. A cry that perhaps is already grace.
