In the year of the Lord 1087 the noble Oddone de Salis, descending from a family that took its name from an historic Lombard settlement, donated numerous properties to the monks of the Monastery of Pontida, keeping for itself the castle built in the locality of Sale. This ancient tower-house that has survived and passed through the centuries, has seen men and women of all ages walk among its walls, built in the 10th century.
Today, with the passionate and loving preservation of the current owners, we offer the sense of protection, warmth and charm emanating from these millennial stones.

Built in the 10th century, Torre de Salis, predates the castles used privately. At that time castles were only used for military purposes. It was built as a stronghold, with a rectangular base tower, walls to defend the structure, and a drawbridge.

Over the years, up until the 16th century, it was enlarged by creating additional rooms using the existing walls. In the same period the small private church was built and frescoes were made, such as the one on the entrance door, to decorate the structure and thus making it more noble … it was a sign that times were changing and that the Middle Ages were over.

In the seventeenth century a new wing of the building was built using typical styles from a completely different era that was now beginning.

KNIGHT’S QUARTERS

Leaning against the oldest walls of the castle, dating back to the year 1000th, it’s the area where the knight guards were residing while presiding the territory. Now the knight’s tapestry watches over the rest of the guests, refreshed by the cool breeze that descends from the hill.

DAMES’ QUARTERS

A large, bright living room with a fireplace for the Ladies of yesterday and of today; the emotion of a wooden staircase to reach a romantic alcove, the ideal place for dreams, and emotions “out of time”.

PRIORY QUARTERS

The access to this secluded environment is from the courtyard, along the walls that encircled the feudal lord’s residence to the south. A space once reserved for the clergyman who took care of the small church of the palace, a place of peace and rest for the body and the spirit.
