Church of Saints Gervasio and Protasio
The parish church dedicated to Saints Gervasio and Protasio in Cologne was built from 1792 to 1810 by Gaspare Turbini.
On the high altar (designed by Rodolfo Vantini), an altarpiece by Pietro Marone depicts the Martyrdom of SS. Gervasio and Protasio.
On the first altar on the right, a canvas by Angelo Pietrasanta (student of Francesco Hayez) represents the Madonna protecting Cologne, while the second altar is dedicated to the Madonna del Rosario.
On the first altar on the left, there are an altarpiece by Prospero Rabaglio with the Deposition of the Cross and a canvas by Grazio Cossali with the Madonna and Saints Lorenzo, Stefano and Carlo Borromeo, while the second altar is dedicated to the Sacred Heart.
On the counter-façade, there is a fresco by A. Zuccari in which Jesus chases away the profanators of the temple. Giuseppe Teosa realizes the frescoes of the lunette with the Assumption of the Virgin, of the vault with the Dream of Saint Ambrose, the Discovery of the bodies of Saints Gervasio and Protasio and their Glorification, while on the sides the four Evangelists; Gaetano Cresseri painted the side frescoes, while the Rubagotti brothers completed the building with decorations and stuccoes.
