Chiesa dei Santi San Fermo e Rustico

Not far from the residential area of Credaro, immersed in the countryside, stands the isolated church of San Fermo, an ancient Romanesque building dating back to the beginning of the 11th century.
From an architectural point of view, the building, which has undergone numerous construction phases and modifications over time, currently has a single, rather irregular hall covered with exposed beams. In the sacred area, you can see a polygonal apse with segmented vaults, but looking down you can see two twin apses discovered in 1996 and highlighted by a glass roof.
The original church was smaller and was characterized by a sober and simple layout; light entered through small single-lancet windows. Currently, few mural paintings are visible, some with gaps, others better preserved and of considerable importance. In particular, on the triumphal arch, on the right, you can see an Announcing Angel, dating back to the beginning of the 11th century, which is one of the oldest frescoes in the area.
On the outside of the church, the imposing bell tower, about 16 meters high, is visible on the façade. With a square base, the bell tower has a blocked door in the lower portion, the ancient access to the church.
