Parish of St. Maria di Pie’ del Dosso

Located on the Roman route between Val Trompia and Franciacorta, the Parish of St. Maria di Pie’ del Dosso is the center of the civil and religious organization of Gussago.

The present appearance of the church of Romanesque origin is the result of various changes occurred over the centuries, which embellish and enrich it with sensational details and frescoes. The bell tower (datable around the 9th and 10th centuries) has a quadrangular shape with terracotta cusps, while the bell cell is characterized by four round lancet windows; in the parish church, it is preserved the incomplete sarcophagus of a high-ranking warrior of the 8th century, called pulpit of Mayorans with bas-relief engravings of Christian symbols and a knight symbolically crossing the afterlife.
