Tribute to Claude Bolling
SOLD OUT
Giovanni Mareggini, one of the most representative flutists of the Italian concert scene with an international experience of great prestige, meets a trio (Simone Pagani at the piano, Franco Catalini double bass and Massimo Melillo drums) made up of classical musicians, who have also been dedicating themselves to the Jazz music for years.
On the occasion of the recent death of the pianist and composer Claude Bolling, they decided to present one of his most successful works, which draws its originality precisely from the combination of classical and jazz. The French musician was a professional pianist and author of more than one hundred soundtracks, mostly French but also with foreign collaborations.
Bolling, in addition to being famous for his teaching manuals, is known above all for two elements: his big band that has revived the style of the “Swing Era” and his commitment to composing songs between classical and jazz. In the latter regard, the album produced together with the flutist Jean-Pierre Rampal “Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano Trio” should be mentioned, which introduces the mix of genres present within it from the title. From this experience a series of compositions were born, which involved classical musicians and techniques with jazz formations
The concert is one of these and probably the most interesting, due to the arduous virtuosic commitment but above all for the interpenetration between the two genres and the extraordinary creativity.
