The Museo d’arte orientale – Collezione Mazzocchi displays the most valuable works of Japanese art from the 1800s and 1900s, including works by Hokusai, Hiroshige and the great masters of Ukiyo-e, collected by the Mazzocchi family.

With great courage for the time, Pompeo Mazzocchi travelled the world experiencing epic adventures among wars, pirates and samurai. His favourite destination was Japan, from which he brought back over 500 works and objects, as well as the silkworm, thus helping to save the Lombard economy. His son Cesare Mazzocchi is responsible for preserving this cultural heritage and donating it to the community.

Absolute masterpieces on display in the museum are Hokusai’s manga notebooks, a series of prints of Hiroshige’s views of Japan and the beautiful original samurai swords and katanas from the 19th century.

The museum is open to all.
