Sanctuary of Madonna dell’Avello
The Sanctuary of Madonna dell’Avello rises along the path towards the hill of Cerezzata (hamlet of Ome). Dating back to the 16th century, it undergoes various transformations: for example, during the 18th century, its orientation is changed by 180° in order to offer the necessary capacity to devotees to celebrate September 8th (anniversary of the birth of Mary).
Inside, the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary represents “the oldest image of the Mother of God in Brescia”, as stated by Father Murachelli in 1956. The walls preserve a cycle of frescoes from the first half of the 16th century, which consists of 159 full figures of Madonnas and Saints venerated by popular tradition.
