Circular itinerary to discover the peculiarities of Upper Lake Iseo: on one side the panoramic part with the lake and its mild and breezy climate, on the other the borders of the Valle del Freddo Nature Reserve.

The trail / der Weg

The starting point is Via Apostoli 31, in the municipality of Solto Collina. Here you will notice the signs “Sentiero Natura del Sebino” and “Sentiero Agrituristico del Lago d’Iseo”. Take the dirt road (CAI path 565) slightly uphill and continue straight, ignoring the path to S. Defendente, which will be used for the return.

Continuing, you will find a picnic bench on the right and, later, a fixed hunting lodge. The locals call this path “La Panoramica” because, between one shrub and another, there are numerous views that open onto Lake Iseo. The path then arrives at a small hill called “Il Balot”; a descent on a paved road begins. At the first crossroads, take the road that goes up to the left and allows you to go up the hill.

You begin to descend slightly until, on the left, you find the path that leads to Valle del Freddo. On the left you can observe the towns of Sovere and Pianico, and the industrial area of Endine. After this continuous ups and downs, a climb begins that leads to the town of Esmate. You pass the cemetery until you reach the shrine of the Madonna of Pompeii, behind which there is path 565C, to the Church of San Defendente.

After admiring the view from S. Defendente, head behind the church. Below the picnic area there are several routes that connect to the “direttissima”. The latter takes you back to path 565, which allows you to return to the starting point.

DE – Der Ausgangspunkt ist Via Apostoli 31, in der Gemeinde Solto Collina. Hier sieht man die Schilder „Sentiero Natura del Sebino“ und „Sentiero Agrituristico del Lago d’Iseo“. Man nimmt den unbefestigten Weg (CAI-Weg 565) leicht bergauf und geht geradeaus weiter, wobei man den Weg nach S. Defendente ignoriert, der für die Rückkehr benutzt wird.

Wenn man weitergeht, findet man rechts eine Picknickbank und später eine feste Jagdhütte. Die Einheimischen nennen diesen Weg „La Panoramica“, weil sich zwischen einem Busch und dem anderen zahlreiche Ausblicke auf den Iseosee eröffnen. Der Weg erreicht dann einen kleinen Hügel namens „Il Balot“; Es beginnt der Abstieg auf einer asphaltierten Straße. Man nimmt an der ersten Kreuzung die Straße, die nach links führt und den Hügel hinaufführt.

Man beginnt leicht abzusteigen, bis man auf der linken Seite den Weg findet, der ins Valle del Freddo führt. Auf der linken Seite kann man die Städte Sovere und Pianico sowie das Industriegebiet Endine beobachten. Nach diesem ständigen Auf und Ab beginnt ein Anstieg, der zur Stadt Esmate führt. Man geht den Friedhof weiter, bis man das Heiligtum der Madonna von Pompeji erreicht, hinter dem sich der Weg 565C befindet, der zur Kirche San Defendente führt.

Nachdem man die Aussicht von S. Defendente bewundert hat, geht man hinter die Kirche. Unterhalb des Picknickplatzes gibt es mehrere Routen, die zur „Direttissima“ führen. Letzterer führt zurück zum Weg 565, der die Rückkehr zum Ausgangspunkt ermöglicht.

For those arriving from Bergamo, take the SS 42 to Piangaiano and then the SP 77 to Solto Collina.

DE – Wer vom Iseosee kommt, folgt der SP 469 nach Riva di Solto und Solto Collina.

Wer aus Bergamo anreist, nimmt die SS 42 nach Piangaiano und dann die SP 77 nach Solto Collina.
