The hill of San Giovanni, also called Monte Cala, located at the crossroads between Val Cavallina, Val Borlezza and lower Valle Camonica, overlooks the village of Lovere and Lake Iseo.

DE – Der Hügel von San Giovanni, auch Monte Cala genannt, liegt an der Kreuzung zwischen Val Cavallina, Val Borlezza und dem unteren Valle Camonica, überragt die Stadt Lovere und wacht über den Iseosee.

The trail / der Weg

From Piazzale Bonomelli, head towards the church of San Giorgio and continue left along Via Celeri. After a short walk in the chestnut woods you reach the locality of Davine where, near a votive chapel, a crossroads leads to the locality of Carassone, among woods, meadows and wide views of Lovere and the lake. 

The road, very characteristic and surrounded by vegetation, with a path sometimes uphill and sometimes flat, leads to the Sanctuary of San Giovanni. Built on the ruins of a fortress of medieval origin, the Sanctuary offers a suggestive view over the whole of Lake Iseo, Val Cavallina and Valle Camonica, up to the foothills of Adamello.

DE – Von der Piazzale Bonomelli geht man in Richtung der Kirche San Giorgio und folgt der Via Celeri links. Nach einer kurzen Fahrt durch die Kastanienwälder erreicht man das Davine-Gebiet, wo in der Nähe einer Votivkapelle die Kreuzung abzweigt, die durch Wälder, Wiesen und weite Ausblicke auf Lovere und den See in das Carassone-Gebiet führt.

Die sehr charakteristische, von Vegetation umgebene Straße, die manchmal bergauf, manchmal flach verläuft, führt zur Wallfahrtskirche San Giovanni. Das auf den Ruinen einer Festung mittelalterlichen Ursprungs erbaute Heiligtum bietet einen eindrucksvollen Blick über den Iseosee, das Val Cavallina und das Valle Camonica bis zu den Ausläufern des Adamello.

How to arrive and where to park / Anreise und Parkplätze

Follow the directions for Lake Iseo and then for Lovere. For those arriving from Bergamo it is necessary to take the SS 42, while for those arriving from Brescia it is possible to follow the SP 510 up to Iseo and then take the coastal road that leads to Lovere through the various villages that overlook the eastern coast of Lake Iseo.

DE – Man muss den Wegbeschreibungen für den Iseosee und dann für Lovere folgen. Wenn man aus Bergamo anreist, ist es notwendig, die SS 42 zu nehmen.
