The trail / der Weg

The trail begins near the Cappella del Colet in Castro, where you first take the Sentiero Agrituristico del Lago d’Iseo and then the CAI path 565 that passes through the Cold Valley Nature Reserve. On the right you will see the towns of Sovere and Pianico as well as the industrial area of Endine Gaiano . A continuous ups and downs will lead to the small village of Esmate, where you continue towards the cemetery up to the shrine of the Madonna di Pompei, behind which is the path 565C that leads to the hermitage of San Defendente, from which you can have a wonderful view of Lake Iseo and to which it is possible to make a detour. Alternatively, you can continue on path 565B and then on the Trans Padana Centrale until you reach the starting point.

DE – Der Weg beginnt in der Nähe der Cappella del Colet in Castro, wo man zuerst den Sentiero Agrituristico del Lago d’Iseo und dann den CAI-Weg 565 nimmt, der durch das Valle del Freddo Naturschutzgebiet durchgeht. Rechts sieht man die Dörfer Sovere und Pianico sowie das Industriegebiet von Endine Gaiano. Man erreicht dann das kleine Dorf Esmate, wo msn weiter in Richtung Friedhof bis zum Schrein der Madonna di Pompei fährt, hinter dem sich der Weg 565C befindet, der zur Einsiedelei von San Defendente führt, von der aus man eine herrlicher Blick auf den Iseosee haben kann und zu dem man einen Umweg machen kann. Alternativ kann man auf dem Pfad 565B und dann auf dem Trans Padana Centrale weiterfahren, bis man den Startpunkt erreicht.

From Bergamo it is necessary to follow the SS 42 to Castro. From Brescia follow the SP 510 to the junction for Bergamo / Costa Volpino / Lovere and then the SS 42 to Castro.

Car park in via Rocca or in via Strada Vecchia in Castro.
