Fonteno and Riva di Solto “Big Bench” is a green and blue giant bench, blue as the lake and green as the mountains, located in Dor (Riva di Solto), a strategic point that offers breathtaking views of Lake Iseo and Corna Trentapassi. The installation, realized within the project “Big Bench Community Project” (BBCP) by the American artist/designer Chris Bangle, has been made possible thanks to the contribution of the associations of the territory (“Amici della Sagra del Pesce” of Riva di Solto, Protezione Civile Fonteno and “Amici di San Carlo” of Xino).

The activities of the BBCP – of an exclusive non-profit nature – include both technical support to those who want to build a new official Big Bench, and collaboration with the excellence of local craftsmanship to create products inspired by them, which can make a small contribution to the local economy and tourism, in the sign of the positive spirit that the Big Benches bring to this area. Part of the proceeds of each sale, will be devolved by the BBCP to the towns involved and will be destined to support the local community.

The Big Benches Passport

You can collect the stamp of each bench on your BBCP passport; each stamp bears the logo of the Giant Benches and the name of the village in which they are located.

DE – Die “Big Bench” von Fonteno und Riva di Solto ist eine riesige grün-blaue Bank, blau wie der See und grün wie die Berge. Sie befindet sich in Dor (Riva di Solto) an einem strategischen Punkt, der einen atemberaubenden Blick auf den Iseosee und Corna Trentapassi bietet. Die Installation, die im Rahmen des Projekts “Big Bench Community Project” (BBCP) des amerikanischen Künstlers / Designers Chris Bangle realisiert wurde, wurde durch den Beitrag der Verbände des Territoriums ermöglicht (“Amici della Sagra del Pesce” von Riva di Solto, Protazione Civile Fonteno und “Amici di San Carlo”von Xino).

Die Aktivitäten des Big Bench Community Project (BBCP) – ausschließlich gemeinnütziger Natur – umfassen sowohl technische Unterstützung für diejenigen, die eine neue offizielle Big Bench bauen möchten, als auch die Zusammenarbeit mit lokaler Handwerkskunst, um von ihnen inspirierte Produkte zu entwickeln, im Zeichen des positiven Geistes, den die Big Benches in ein bestimmtes Gebiet bringen. Ein Teil des Erlöses jedes Verkaufs wird von BBCP an die beteiligten Städte weitergeleitet und soll die lokale Gemeinschaft unterstützen.

The trail from Fonteno / der Weg von Fonteno

The bench can be reached starting from Piazza Ongaro Parroci in Fonteno. Starting from the square, go up from via Campello towards the town hall, take via Papa Giovanni XXIII on the right up to the start of the old connection road that led to Solto Collina.

The route is marked by special signs and is suitable for everyone (duration: 30 min).

Throughout the tourist season, it will be possible to park at the sports field in Fonteno on Sundays and public holidays.

DE – Die Bank kann der Piazza Ongaro Parroci in Fonteno erreicht werden. Vom Platz begeht man via Campello in Richtung Rathaus und nimmt via Papa Giovanni XXIII rechts bis zum Beginn der alten Verbindungsstraße, die nach Solto Collina führte.

Die Strecke ist mit speziellen Schildern gekennzeichnet und für alle geeignet (Dauer: 30 min).

Während der gesamten Touristensaison kann man an Sonn- und Feiertagen auf dem Sportplatz in Fonteno parken.

The trail from Riva di Solto / der Weg von Riva di Solto

The trail starts from Riva di Solto, at the crossroads between via Ronchi and via Papa Giovanni XXIII, near car park number 3. Take the CAI path 567 or CM1, called “Zangol” by locals, which passes through the Valley of San Rocco. Climbing the mule track you will  arrive at the hamlet called Zangolo, where at a junction (where there is a votive shrine) you take the left and continue on path 567. After arriving on a paved road, go down 20 metres and take the new entrance to the path that climbs up to Xino village.
From the square you have to go straight on, passing by the old water tanks, then on a steep road you will end up on the main road that leads to Fonteno’s square, 500 meters away. From there you can continue with the trail indicated above, marked with special signs.

This trail is more demanding and has a duration of 1h 30 min. The itinerary is 8 km long and has a difference in altitude of 427 m.

DE – Der Weg beginnt in Riva di Solto, an der Kreuzung zwischen via Ronchi und v Papa Giovanni XXIII, in der Nähe des Parkplatzes Nr. 3. Man nimmt den CAI-Pfad 567 oder CM1, der von Einheimischen “Zangol” genannt wird und durch das Tal von San Rocco führt. Nachdem man den Saumpfad hinaufgestiegen ist, erreicht man den Ortsteil Zangolo, wo man an einer Kreuzung (wo sich ein Votivschrein befindet) links abbiegt und auf dem Weg 567 weiterfährt. Nachdem man auf einer asphaltierten Straße angekommen ist, geht man 20 Meter hinunter und nimmt den neuen Eingang zum Weg, der zum Dorf Xino führt. Vom Platz aus muss man geradeaus an den alten Wassertanks vorbeifahren. Auf einer steilen Straße gelangt man auf die Hauptstraße, die zum 500 Meter entfernten Platz von Fonteno führt. Von dort aus kann man den oben angegebenen Weg fortsetzen, der mit speziellen Schildern gekennzeichnet ist.

Dieser Weg ist anspruchsvoller und dauert 1h 30 min. Die Reiseroute ist 8 km lang und weist einen Höhenunterschied von 427 m auf.
