The trail / der Weg

The long descent from San Bartolomeo continues down to Pisogne. After a pair of rural buildings, keeping on walking through fields and well-kept meadows, you will enter again a wood, going diagonally downhill. The Antica Strada Valeriana becomes a trail crossed by several rills. This area up to Govine is especially rich in hellebores (Helleborus niger), also called Christmas rose (“bucaneve” in Italian). The trail changes again into a mule track as it joins another lane that takes to “Dosso delle Sane”.
Walking down a bit, you will come across San Defendente’s Chapel, where the mule track has been paved. With the first houses of Govine you will notice a modest waterfall flowing first into the bed of a stream and then, after crossing the village, down into the lake. Keep on walking along the left side of the stream. Get across the bridge: in the surroundings you will find an iron wheel once set in motion by water. Enter the village of Govine through a bottleneck: a pedestrian crossing will lead you to the Church of Natività di Maria, (XVI century). Once crossed the stream Tobiolo, go straight to the historical centre of Pisogne passing through a vault in via Mercanti. You will be soon in a square called “Vescovo Corna Pellegrini” from where it is possible to admire the Parish Church and the tower bell toward the lake. You will enter via Antica Valeriana and, after leaving the centre of the village, you will arrive at the Church of Santa Maria della Neve, with frescoes by Romanino. This beautiful church could be both the arrival of your journey and the starting point for a new magical trip along the Antica Strada Valeriana route.

DE – Von San Bartolomeo führt der lange Abstieg weiter nach Pisogne. Zwischen gepflegten Wiesen und Kastanienbäumen, hinter ein paar Hütten, betritt man wieder einen Wald entlang einer langen Diagonale, die leicht bergab geht. Die Antica Strada Valeriana wird zu einem Pfad, den zahlreiche Wasserbäche durchqueren. Dieses Gebiet bis nach Govine ist besonders reich an Nieswurz (Helleborus niger), den sogenannten Schneeglöckchen oder Weihnachtssternen. Der Weg trifft den Karrenweg, der zum „Dosso delle Sane“ führt und ihm in Richtung Tal folgt. Etwas weiter unten stößt man auf die Kapelle San Defendente und der Feldweg wird zementiert. Bei den ersten Häusern von Govine kann man den Felsensprung sehen, dem das Wasser ausgesetzt sein muss, bevor es in das Flussbett geleitet wird, das die Häuser kreuzt und sich in den See wirft. Man geht die linke Seite des Baches entlang und überquert eine Steinbrücke, an deren Seiten sich ein altes Eisenrad befindet, das einst vom Wasser angetrieben wurde. Von hier aus betritt man durch einen schmalen Durchgang das Dorf Govine. Ein Fußgängerweg führt zur Kirche der Natività di Maria aus dem 16. Jahrhundert. Wenn man den Trobiolo-Bach überquert, fährt  man in Richtung des historischen Zentrums von Pisogne. Bald befindet sich man im Zentrum, auf Piazza Vescovo Corna Pellegrini. Hier kann man in Richtung Berg die Pfarrkirche und in Richtung See den Glockenturm bewundern. Wenn man über via Antica Valeriana weiterfährt und das historische Zentrum verlässt, erreicht man die Kirche Santa Maria della Neve, mit Fresken von Romanino, die Ankunfts- oder Ausgangspunkt für die wunderbare Reise entlang der Antica Strada Valeriana sein kann.

For those who would like to walk along the Antica Strada Valeriana route from Pisogne, it is necessary to follow the provincial road 510 until junction for Pisogne Sud/Toline.

Free parking spaces are available both in Toline and in the centre of Pisogne.

DE – Der Ausgangspunkt dieser Strecke, die Kirche San Bartolomeo, kann von Toline di Pisogne aus zu Fuß erreicht werden.

Wenn man die Antica Strada Valeriana von Pisogne aus nehmen möchte, muss man der Provinzstraße 510 bis zur Kreuzung Pisogne Sud / Toline folgen.
